Bloomsburg Falls to West Chester in Men's Basketball
WEST CHESTER —The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to West Chester on Wednesday night, 78-60, in PSAC Eastern Division action.
The teams traded in the opening 10 minutes of the game and were tied at 14-14 with 10:21 left in the half. However, the Golden Rams used a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to grab a 29-16 lead with 4:21 left to play. Aaron Williams keyed the run for West Chester with five points.
The Huskies did climb back to within five points, 31-26, with a 10-2 run helped out by four points from Ernest Cherry (St. Lucia) with 1:26 to play in the half. But, the home team ended the half by scoring six of the final eight points to take a 37-28 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, West Chester pushed its lead to 15 points, 50-35, before the Huskies once again closed the gap. But showing it wouldn't give up, the Huskies used an 11-6 run, helped by five points from Ryan Nenstiel (Nuremburg/Weatherly), and got to within 10 points at 56-46, with 10 minutes to play.
But, the Golden Rams used a 12-0 run to push the lead to 22 points with 6:01 left to play. From there the Huskies could get no closer than 18 the rest of the way.
Bloomsburg, 6-20, 2-9 in the PSAC East, got 14 points from Andrew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney), 11 points from Billy Bryan (Denver/Holy Name) and 10 from Cherry.
West Chester, 18-9, 8-4 in the PSAC East, was led by Matt Kurtz with 22 points, while Aaron Williams added 18 points.
The Huskies will end its 2004-05 season with a home game with Millersville on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
