Bloomsburg Falls to East Stroudsburg in Men's Basketbal

BLOOMSBURG--Bloomsburg University rallied from 10-point halftime deficit to take a brief lead, but could not hang on as East Stroudsburg posted a 78-65 win over the Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game Monday night.

The Warriors started quickly and led 11-0 before Billy Bryan (Denver/Reading Holy Name) scored inside for the Huskies with 16:58 left in the first half. The bucket put the Huskies on a 14-6 run and brought them to within three at 17-14 with 12:32 to play. Bryan scored seven and Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) five for Bloomsburg in the run.

East Stroudsburg then pulled back in front by 10 at 27-17 on two free throws by Darron Bradley. But, the Huskies once again rallied and closed to within two at 28-26 on another layup by Bryan.

The Warriors, though, closed out the half with 15-7 run to lead by 10 at the break.

In the second half the Huskies fell behind by 11 on a jumper from East Stroudsburg's Naveen Mohiuddin with 18:06 left in the game. Bloomsburg, though, responded with a big 17-4 run to take it first lead of the game, 52-50, with 12:21 to play. Leading the rally for Bloomsburg was Bryan with 10 points. After the Warriors knotted the game at 52-all, the Huskies took one final lead at 53-52 on a free throw from Bryan with 11:40 left in the game. That would be Bloomsburg's final lead of the game.

East Stroudsburg put together a 15-4 to push its lead back to 10 at 67-57 with 7:19 to play. The Huskies briefly brought the lead back to nine points, 67-58, on a free throw from Mike Cheatle (North Wales/Hatboro-Horsham), but could get no closer.

Leading East Stroudsburg (15-7, 6-1 in the PSAC East) was Danny Hargrove with 24 points, while Josh Wentz scored 18 off the bench.

Bloomsburg (5-17, 1-6 PSAC East) was led in scoring by Bryan with 24 points, while Matt Jefferson added 11 points.

The Huskies visit Kutztown on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
