Bloomsburg Downs Lock Haven Behind Jefferson and Cheatle

LOCK HAVEN - Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/Engineering and Science) scored a game-high 29 points and Mike Cheatle (North Wales/Hatboro-Horsham) added a career-high 23 points to lead the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team to a 93-80 win over Lock Haven Sunday afternoon.
Lock Haven held the early edge in the game jumping out to an 8-1 lead after the first three minutes of play. But, the Huskies came back and tied the score at 10-10 on a jumper from Jefferson just a minute later. The teams then traded leads and were also tied six times before Bloomsburg opened up a five-point lead, 34-29, on a layup from Brian Holsey (Philadelphia/Masterman) with 2:40 left in the half. Lock Haven then rallied and went into halftime leading by one, 40-39 after ending with an 11-5 run.
In the second half, with Lock Haven in front by one, Bloomsburg put together an 18-4 run to go in front 64-51 with 12 minutes to play. Leading the charge for the Huskies was Cheatle who hit three of six three-pointers in a four-minute stretch to give Bloomsburg the lead.
Lock Haven would get the lead back under 10 points just once the rest of the game as the Huskies pushed its lead to as many as 21 points, 81-60, after a pair of Jefferson free throws with 4:18 to play.
Jefferson finished with 29 points for Bloomsburg, 4-12, and added eight rebounds, while Cheatle scored a career-best 23 points coming of 7 of 13 from the floor, 6 of 11 from three-point range. Also, Billy Bryan (Denver/Reading Holy Name) added 16 points and Marion Rose (Philadelphia/Mastabum Tech) 15 points for the Huskies.
Lock Haven, 2-13, got 25 points from James Campbell and 22 from Billy Arre in the loss.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Field House against Kutztown.
