Bloomsburg Falls in Men's Basketball To UPJ

JOHNSTOWN —Chris Gilliam scored a game-high 26 points to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 95-70 win over Bloomsburg University in men's basketball action Wednesday night.
The Mountain Cats jumped out to an early 11-4 lead after a Gilliam layup with 15:41 to play. After the Huskies' Mike Cheatle (North Wales/Hatboro-Horsham) hit a three-pointer to make it 11-7, UPJ went on a 11-1 run over the next nine minutes to open a 22-8 lead.
In the second half, the Huskies saw the home team push the lead to 18 early in the period before rallying and getting back to within 12, 60-48, after a layup from Billy Bryan (Denver/Reading Holy Name) with 11:42 left in the game. However, a 16-5 run by Pitt-Johnstown over the four minutes put the game out of reach. UPJ was red-hot from the floor in the second half hitting 67 percent of its shots (20-30) from the floor.
Bloomsburg, 1-4, was led by Bryan's 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Ernest Cherry (St. Lucia) added 12 and Derek Daniels (White Plains, NY) 10 for the Huskies.
Along with Gilliam's 26 points for Pitt-Johnstown, now 4-2, the Mountain Cats for 15 points from J.J. Schumacher and14 from Kyle Goldcamp.
Bloomsburg will host Clarion on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
