Bloomsburg University Downs Davis and Elkins in Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team ran its record to 4-0 after a 60-53 win over Davis and Elkins College Tuesday night at the Nelson Field House.
The 4-0 start under new head coach John Sanow is the best for the Huskies since the 1988-89 season when Bloomsburg opened the season with a mark of 5-0.
Davis and Elkins started quickly in the game taking a 7-0 lead in the first three minutes of play. The Huskies finally got on the board with a jumper from Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) with 16:20 left in the half. The shot propelled the Huskies on a 14-2 run giving them a 14-9 lead with 10 minutes left in the half. Mike Cheatle (Lower Gwynedd/Hatboro-Horsham) hit two, three-pointers for the Huskies in the rally.
Bloomsburg would later push the lead to 10 points, 22-12, on a jumper from Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/St. Francis) before the Senators came back with a run to narrow the gap to 26-24 with 1:22 left in the half. The Huskies, though, closed out the half with a bucket by Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/George Washington) and two Cheatle free throws for a six point lead at the break,
In the second half, Davis and Elkins put together a 15-6 run of its own, highlighted by a couple of three-pointers from Brett Rector to take a 39-36 lead with 13:36 to play.
However, Bloomsburg came back with 19-3 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 13-point lead at 55-42 with Nick Jones netting four points for the Huskies.
The visitors had one more rally left and cut the double digit lead to just five, 58-53, with 25 seconds to play. But, the Huskies hit a couple of free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
Bloomsburg (4-0) was led by Cheatle with 13 points, while Jefferson added 11. Davis and Elkins (0-1) got 21 points from Rector and 13 from Jelani Jackson in the loss.
The Huskies are Saturday Dec. 2 when they host IUP at 3 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
