Bloomsburg Falls to Shippensburg in Men's Basketball

SHIPPENSBURG--The 23rd ranked Bloomsburg University men's basketball team got 13 points from Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/St. Francis) and 12 from Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/George Washington), but it wasn't enough as the Huskies lost to Shippensburg, 70-54, on Tuesday night.

The Huskies (6-2) hit the first basket of the game, a three-pointer from Niko Traykov (Bulgaria), but that would be their final lead of the night. The Red Raiders scored the next seven points of the game to take a 7-3 and built the lead to 28-14 with 8:16 left in the first half. Bloomsburg rallied with baskets from Traykov, Jefferson and Jones to climb back to within eight points at 28-20, but the Red Raiders eventually built a 37-26 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Huskies got to within 11 points with 16:07 to play on a pair of free throws by Brian Holsey (Philadelphia/JR Masterman), but Shippensburg put the game away with a 13-0 run to open a 54-30 lead with 11:49 to play in the game.

Shippensburg (5-7) was led by Alex Jones with 17 points, while Chuck Davis added 15 points.

Bloomsburg will play at Lock Haven on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
