Bloomsburg Downs West Chester in Men's Basketball

WEST CHESTER -- Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) scored a career-high 26 points as the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team overcame a long second half delay and posted a 75-69 win over West Chester Wednesday night.

The game was stopped for over 50 minutes to due to a broken rim with 16:58 left in the game when the Golden Rams' Aaron Williams broke the rim on a dunk.

The game was back and forth in the opening 20 minutes with neither team leading by more than five points to go along with four ties. The Huskies, who led 35-33 at the break, were leading 40-35 when Williams broke the rim on a dunk. When play resumed, the Huskies saw the home team rally and go up by four points, 48-44. But Jones responded with two conventional three-point plays to give Bloomsburg the lead, 50-48, with 11 minutes to play. Then, with the score tied at 56-all, the Huskies went on a 10-2 run capped by Billy Bryan's (Denver/Holy Name) three-point play that gave Bloomsburg an eight-point lead with 4:07 left in the game.

West Chester rallied and cut the deficit to two points, 68-66, but the Huskies hit five of six free throws in the closing minute to seal the victory.

Along with Jones' 26 points, Bloomsburg (12-14, 4-7 PSAC East) got 15 points from Matt Jefferson (Philadelphia/George Washington) with Bryan finishing with 13.

West Chester (13-13, 5-6 PSAC East) was led in scoring by Shawn Werdt with 21 points, while Lenwood Greenwood added 15 points.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Mansfield in the season-finale at 3 p.m.
