Jones Leads Huskies to Win over Briarcliffe

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY--Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) scored a game-high 29 points to lead Bloomsburg University to a 62-59 win over Briarcliffe College on Wednesday night.
The Huskies jumped out to 7-2 lead in the first three minutes of play with Jones scoring all seven points. Bloomsburg would later stretch the lead to 13 points by halftime with Jones ending the period with a dunk.
In the second half, the Huskies led 50-40 with 12:03 to play when Briarcliffe went on a 16-6 run over the next seven minutes to tie that game 56-56 with 5:06 left in the game. Bloomsburg regained the lead when Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) hit one of two from the free throw line and had a layup sandwiched around a jumper from Jones for a 61-56 Bloomsburg lead with 2:27 to play.
Briarcliffe's Nikkita Davis got the home team back to within two, 61-59, with a three-pointer with 1:34 to play. After both teams had missed opportunities, Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) hit one of two free throws with four seconds left to make it a three-point lead. Briarcliffe, though, could not get off a shot in the final seconds giving Bloomsburg the victory.
Along with Jones getting 29, Rose added 14 for the Huskies, now 7-4 on the season. Briarcliffe got 15 points from Davis and 12 from Joshua Smith.
The Huskies host California (PA) on Sunday at 3 p.m.
