Bloomsburg Men's Basketball Falls to California, (Pa.)

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team fell to the Vulcans of California (Pa.), 75-65 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Sunday. Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) had a game-high 16 points to lead Bloomsburg, which had three players score in double figures.
The Vulcans and the Huskies traded baskets in the opening minutes of the first period, as Bloomsburg would take an early 5-4 lead courtesy of a Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest/St. Francis, NY) three-pointer two minutes into the game. The Vulcans would respond with a 13-5 run over the next 5:15 to take a 17-10 advantage with 12:45 left in the first period.
Bloomsburg would then make a run, as Jon DeJesus (East Stroudsburg/Lackawanna C.C.) hit a pair of three pointers over the next four minutes to close the lead to three, 21-18, with 8:32 left to go in the first. After trading baskets, a pair of layups by Jesse Brooks allowed California to close the half with an eight-point advantage, 39-31.
Bloomsburg would respond quickly in the second half. Back-to-back threes by Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) and Jones tied the game at 41 with 15:47 left to go in the game. From there, the Vulcans would pull away thanks to a 17-4 run, holding a 58-45 lead with six minutes to play. Bloomsburg would cut the lead to six with thirty seconds left to play, courtesy of another Jones three-pointer, but would not come any closer.
Rose had 15 points and Jones added 14 and four rebounds in the losing effort. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 7-5, while the Vulcans improve to 11-2 on the season.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday when they travel to Slippery Rock. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
