Bloomsburg Falls to DeSales in Men's Basketball

Box Score

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University Men's basketball team fell to the Bulldogs of DeSales University 75-67 in a late-season non-conference tilt on Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies would take a quick 2-0 advantage when Jeremiah Long (New Columbia/Mifflinburg) hit a lay-up only 20 seconds in. From there, DeSales would tear off 10-2 run to take 10-4 lead 3:19 into the first period. The Huskies would cut that lead to two when Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) hit a three-pointer to make the score 13-11, but that would be short lived, as Rob Schubach responded with a three-pointer to give DeSales a 16-11 lead.

The Huskies would rally to take the lead when John Allen (Hatfield/North Penn) and Marko Vucajnk (Zalec, Slovenia/Marist) hit back-to-back lay-ups to give the Huskies a 21-18 lead.

The Huskies would build their lead to five with four minutes remaining before Darnell Braswell and Ed Lapinski hit back-to back lay-ups right before the end of the first half to cut the lead to one, 32-31, at the break.

In the second half, both teams traded baskets until the 14:05 mark when DeSales went on a run. Rob Schubach hit a three-pointer to give DeSales a seven-point advantage with 14 minutes remaining. The Huskies were again up to the challenge, as Jones and Allen both hit a pair of jumpers over a three-minute period to cut the DeSales lead down to one, 58-57, with 7:12 remaining.

After Niko Traykov (Bulgaria/Lebanon, Pa.) hit a three-pointer at the 4:16 mark to cut the DeSales lead to one, the Bulldogs would pull away. A three-pointer by Braswell and a pair of Lapinski lay-ups would put DeSales up for good.

The Huskies were led by Jones, who had 18 points, and by Traykov, who tied a career-high with 17 points. With the loss, Bloomsburg's record falls to 8-17 overall.

The Huskies will be in action Wednesday night when they host West Chester. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
