Huskies Fall Short to IUP

INDIANA, PA--Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) scored a team-high 17 points, but the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to Indiana, Pa. (IUP) on Saturday by a score of 61-58.
Trailing by 10 points at halftime, 29-19, the Huskies used a 13-3 run in the opening five minutes of the half to knot the game at 32-32. Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) hit back-to-back three's with Jones adding a third trey for the Huskies in the run.
Bloomsburg would later grab the lead for the first time in the game on a layup by Jones, then would stretch the margin to five points, 49-44, on a tip-in by Niko Traykov (Bulgaria) with 8:02 to play.
The Crimson Hawks, though, rallied and would go in front, 57-54, on a pair of free throws by Adeniyi Amadou with 1:48 to go. The Huskies came back with back-to-back buckets from Traykov and Jones to go back up 58-57 with 1:11 to play. Amadou hit two more free throws with 59 seconds to play to put IUP back on top 59-58.
Following a miss by Jerry for Bloomsburg, IUP would turn the ball back over to the Huskies with 23 seconds to play. However, Bloomsburg gave it right back IUP with a turnover and then a foul with 16 seconds to play. Amadou hit two more free throws for IUP for a 61-58 lead. The Huskies' Adon El (Philadelphia/St. John Neumann) then missed on a three-pointer with three seconds to play. Jones rebounded for Bloomsburg as time expired sending Bloomsburg to the loss.
Along with Jones, John Allen was the only player in double digits with 12 points for Bloomsburg, now 3-2. IUP, 3-1, was led by Sean Christiansen with 22 points, while Darryl Webb added 17 points.
Bloomsburg plays at Clarion Sunday at 3 p.m.
