Bloomsburg Falls to Kutztown in Men's Basketball

KUTZTOWN--Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) scored a game-high 26 points, but the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team fell to Kutztown University, 97-68, on Saturday afternoon. Bloomsburg started the game with just eight players and had one player go down with an injury during the game.

The Huskies jumped out to an 11-9 lead in the game behind the hot hand of Jones who scored seven of the team's points in the first four minutes of play. Kutztown took the lead for good with an 11-1 run over the next five minutes of play to go in front 20-12 with 11:57 left in the first half. After Bloomsburg got to within six points, 24-18, on a jumper from Jon DeJesus (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg North), the Golden Bears used a 21-10 run to take its biggest lead of the half at 45-28.

In the second half, the Huskies got to within 11 points, 48-37, on a layup from Jeremiah Long (New Columbia/Mifflinburg) at the 18:35 mark. But, Kutztown put the game out of reach with an 18-9 run and grabbed a 20-point lead, 66-46, with 13:47 to play. Bloomsburg got no closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

The Huskies, 8-15, 0-9 in the PSAC East, got 26 points and five steals from Jones, while Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) and Niko Traykov (Bulgaria) each scored 12 points.

Kutztown, 16-7, 8-1 in the PSAC East, got 22 points from Andre Woodlin, while Dave Ben and Nate Edwards each scored 17 points.

Bloomsburg will host East Stroudsburg on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
