Buddy Rose Leads Bloomsburg University Men's Basketball to Win

BLOOMSBURG- Senior Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) scored 17 points to lead the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team to a 68-65 win over Lock Haven on Wednesday night.
The Huskies led by as many as 15 points in the second half, 28-13, before taking an 11-point lead into the locker room at halftime. Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) led the way for the Huskies with 13 first half points.
In the second half, Lock Haven switched to a box and one defense on Jones and shut down the high-scoring senior limiting him to just one second half point.
The Huskies, though, were able to maintain a lead, including a 10-point margin, 51-41, with 11:50 to play after a layup by John Allen (Hatfield/North Penn).
Lock Haven chipped away at the deficit and got to within two points, 60-58, after a three-pointer by Eli Hanna with 5:52 to play. Bloomsburg went back up by four, 62-58, after a pair of free throws from Adon El (Philadelphia/St. John Neumann) with 4:23 to play, only to see Tyrone Palmer score inside at 3:42 left to make it a 62-60 game. After a Bloomsburg turnover, Denny Mortimer was fouled and hit one of two shots for a 62-61 BU lead with 2:19 to play. Rose was then fouled with 1:49 to play and hit both free throw shots for another three point lead for Bloomsburg, 64-61.
After a Lock Haven turnover, Niko Traykov (Bulgaria) hit a layup for a 66-61 Huskies lead. But, Lock Haven's Justin Wilson would hit four free throws in a 40-second span with less than a minute to play to get the Bald Eagles back to within a point, 66-65, with 14 seconds to play. On the inbounds play, Lock Haven fouled Jason Green (Washington, DC/DeMatha), who both free throws for a three-point edge with just 12 seconds to go. Following a timeout by Lock Haven with seconds to play, Billy Arre missed a tough three-pointer giving Bloomsburg the win.
Along with Rose's 17 points, Jones scored 14 and El 11 points and eight rebounds for Bloomsburg, now 6-4. Lock Haven, now 0-9, got 21 points from Arre and 12 each from Mortimer and Palmer.
Bloomsburg is idle till January 2 when it plays at Briarcliffe (NY) at 7 p.m.
