Bloomsburg University Falls to Mansfield in Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to Mansfield University by a score of 64-56 on Wednesday night at the Nelson Field House.

The Huskies started fast in the game leading 10-4 through the first six minutes of play with Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) hitting a three-pointer for Bloomsburg. Mansfield rallied and took a 17-11 lead with 11:07 to play in the half on a jumper by Dhimitri Luarasi. Bloomsburg came right back, though, and took a 22-19 lead after a jumper from Jeremiah Long (New Columbia/Mifflinburg) with 5:11 to play. Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) keyed the 11-2 run with five points.

With the Huskies leading by six at the break, 30-24, Mansfield came out and quickly tied the score at 32 in the first two minutes of play. The Huskies would counter and led by five (41-36) following a three-pointer from Jones and a free throw from Niko Traykov (Bulgaria) with 14:09 to play.

Later, with the Huskies still leading by five points, 47-42, Mansfield rallied and took a 48-47 lead on a three-pointer from John Hampton with 8:02 to play. A key stretch in the game came with the score tied 49-all. The Huskies committed turnovers on back-to-back possessions leading to consecutive three-pointers by Chris Pender to put the Mounties in front by six, 55-49. Bloomsburg did get back to within point, 55-54, on a three-point play from Nick Jones and a jumper from John Allen (Hatfield/North Penn) with 4:19 to play. But, Mansfield held the Huskies to just a field goal in the final four minutes and pulled away for an eight-point win.

Jones finished with 16 points for the Huskies, while Long added a career-high 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Mansfield, now 15-6, 3-3 PSAC East, was led by Ryan Callahan with 17 points, while John Hampton added 12.

Bloomsburg, 8-12, 0-6 PSAC East, will host Cheyney on Saturday at 3 p.m.
