Huskies Drop PSAC East Opener
Box Score
BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team dropped its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener to Millersville on Wednesday by a score of 79-68.
The Marauders jumped out to an early 8-2 lead before the Huskies rallied and cut the deficit to three-points, 17-14, on a three-point play from Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest).
Millersville pushed the lead back to 10 points, 33-23, with 4:40 to play in the half on a layup from Brannon Burnett. But, the Huskies, once more, rallied and got back to within four points at 37-33 with under a minute left in the half on a long three-pointer from Jon DeJesus (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg North).
Millersville opened the second half on a 9-2 run to push the margin back to lead to 13 points, 48-35 with 16:03 to play and later saw the lead grow to 16. Bloomsburg, though, with just eight players in uniform, came back yet again and after a Jones three-pointer and jumper from Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) were within seven at 59-52 with 8:03 to play.
However, that would be as close as the Huskies would get the remainder of the way. Bloomsburg hit just two shots in the final two minutes and ended with an 11-point loss.
Millersville, 11-4, 1-0 in the PSAC East, got 27 points from Reggie Bates, while Bernard Brown scored 18 and Charlie Parker 15.
Bloomsburg, now 8-7, 0-1 in the PSAC East, was led by Jones with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) and Niko Traykov (Bulgaria) added 12 each.
The Huskies play at Cheyney on Saturday at 3 p.m.
