Men's Basketball Wins First of the Season

NEW CASTLE, DE-- The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team won its first game of the year with a 56-50 win over Wilmington College at the Wilmington Tip-Off Classic.
Wilmington (1-1) jumped out to an early lead, and led by as many as four (15-11) midway through the first half. The Huskies responded with a 15-4 run to close the half, and entered intermission holding a 26-19 lead.
After Wilmington rallied and took a 44-43 lead with 2:38 to play, the Huskies responded with a 7-0 run to take a 50-44 lead. The Huskies sealed the win with a basket by Buddy Rose (Philadelphia/Mastbaum Tech) and four free throws from Nick Jones (Rosedale, NY/Hillcrest) in the final 30 seconds.
Bloomsburg was paced by Jones, who notched 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Adon El (Philadelphia/St. John Neumann) added 10 points and eight boards, while Niko Traykov (Bulgaria) had 10 points and six rebounds. Buddy Rose chipped in with nine points and six rebounds for the Huskies.
The Wildcats were led by junior guard Mike Shipman, who recorded 12 points, seven assists, and seven steals. Temple added 13 points and eight rebounds, while junior forward Antonio Sherrod chipped in with 12 points and eight boards.
Bloomsburg idle till Nov. 24 when it hosts Briarcliffe College in its home opener at 2 p.m.
