Ronnie Benson Named PSAC East Freshman of the Week


BLOOMSBURG--Bloomsburg University's Ronnie Benson (Harlersville/Souderton Area) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Freshman of the Week for the period ending Jan. 17. Benson is the third different member of the Huskies to earn the Freshman of the Week award this season.

Benson, a 6-4 forward, averaged 13.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Huskies last week in losses to Cheyney and West Chester. He shot 47.4 percent from the floor (9-of-19) and was 4-of-7 from three-point range (57.1 percent). He scored 13 points and grabbed two rebounds vs. Cheyney and then went for 14 points and eight boards against West Chester.

For the season Benson is averaging 9.6 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game. He leads the Huskies in made three-pointers with 30 and in three-point field goal percentage with a mark of 42.9 percent.

Bloomsburg plays at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
