Bloomsburg Men's Basketball Defeated by Goldey-Beacom

Box Score

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team held a four-point lead with ten minutes remaining, but could not hold on as the Huskies fell 64-61 to the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday afternoon.

In a wild affair, Bloomsburg fell behind early as Goldey-Beacom raced out to an 8-1 lead. An emphatic Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) dunk five minutes into the first half would ignite a Bloomsburg rally. Bloomsburg would go on a 11-2 run over the next 4:52 to take a 14-10 lead with 9:37 remaining in the first half. The two teams would trade baskets over the next eight minutes of play. A three point play by Webster with 18 seconds remaining the first period cut the Goldey-Beacom lead to 26-25 as the teams entered halftime.

In the second half, a lay-up by Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) :30 seconds in gave Bloomsburg their first lead since the 6:21 mark of the first half. After a Goldey-Beacom free throw, Ronnie Benson (Harleysville/Souderton) connected on a three-pointer to give the Huskies a 30-27 advantage. Ruben Britt (Vorhees, NJ/Coppin State) hit a running lay-up with 12:33 to go to push the Bloomsburg lead to 39-35. The Huskies would extend their lead to six on the second monster dunk of the night by Webster, who was flagrantly fouled by Goldey-Beacom's Anthony Parham. Parham was ejected for the game for the foul.

Goldey-Beacom would respond though, as a Sam McDuffie lay-up gave the Lightning the lead again, 47-46 with 9:05 remaining. The Lightning would push the lead out to six points with 3:58 to go before Bloomsburg would make one final run. A Britt lay-up with 1:39 remaining would tie the game at 61, but two late fouls on Bloomsburg allowed the Lightning to ice the game.

Webster and Britt led the scoring for the Huskies, both finishing with 18 points. Johnson would add 10 points as well for Bloomsburg. Adrian Miles led Goldey-Beacom with 19 points.

With the loss, the Huskies fall to 2-6 on the season.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Wednesday night when they host Wilmington University. That game begins at 7:00 p.m.
