Box Score

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University men’s basketball team fell to Millersville, 71-69, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game on Saturday Afternoon.

The Huskies took a 13-5 lead over the first eight minutes of the game courtesy of a Ruben Britt (Vorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) three-pointer and a Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) two-handed slam. The Huskies would increase their lead to 17-10 at the 6:31 mark of the first half thanks to a Marko Vucajnk (Slovenia/Marist) lay-up and a tip-in by Webster. A Jordan Warman (Mahanoy/Mahanoy Area) three-pointer made the score 22-14 Huskies with 5:21 in the first. A furious 15-2 run by Millersville over the final five minutes gave the Marauders a 29-24 lead at the half.

In the second half, Wartman connected on a three-point shot seconds into the half to cut the Marauder lead to two. From there, Millersville would go on a 14-6 run over the next seven minutes to take a 43-33 lead with just over 12 minutes to go. Bloomsburg would rally with less than five minutes left, as a Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) slashing lay-up and another Wartman three-pointer cut the lead to eight, 57-49 with 4:05 remaining.

Bloomsburg get as close as two points with under a minute remaining when Jerry nailed a three-pointer with 24 seconds left to make the score 69-67. The Huskies forced a turnover with under 10 seconds remaining, and had a shot to tie the game, but a Wartman jumper was just off the mark as time expired, allowing Millersville to escape with the narrow victory.

Webster led Bloomsburg with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Jerry added 16 points. Brandon Widener led Millersville with 14 points.

With the loss, the Huskies fall to 4-21, 1-11 in the PSAC East.
