Men's Basketball Gets First Win of Season

HAZLETON -- Ruben Britt scored 19 points and led five players in double figures as the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team beat Penn State-Hazleton, 96-71, on Wednesday night for its first win of the season.
The Huskies fell behind early as the Lions rolled out to leads of 10-1 and 15-3 in the first five minutes of play. Later, trailing 19-10, the Huskies put together a 15-7 run to cut the deficit to a bucket, 27-25, on a bucket from Dan Hoover with 5:06 left in the first half. Penn State would push the lead back to six at halftime, 37-31, after closing with 10-6 run.
The second half was a different story for the Huskies, though, as Bloomsburg came out on fire and quickly overcame the deficit and took its first lead, 39-37, on a pair of free throws by Hoover with 18:12 to play. A few minutes later the lead went to 14 59-45 with Britt getting a layup and then two free throws. The Huskies later pushed the lead to 30 points, 78-48, on two free throws by Ronnie Benson before settling for the 25-point victory.
Along with Britt's 19 points, Benson scored 17 with Hoover and Trevon Johnson each scoring 14 points, while Larry Webster chipped in with 12. Britt Ednie scored a game-high 24 points for Penn State-Hazleton.
The Huskies, 1-2, host Mercy College on Saturday night at 5 p.m.
