Bloomsburg University Men's Basketball Defeated by St. Michaels College

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team was defeated by the Purple Knights of St. Michaels College, 65-62 on Sunday in the final game of the DoubleTree Doc Jacobs Classic held at Ross Sports Center in Colchester, Vermont.
In the first half, St. Michaels raced out to an 11-2 lead before Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) and Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) hit back-to back lay-ups to cut the lead to five, 13-6. The Purple Knights responded with a 7-2 run to take a 20-8 lead with 8:48 remaining in the first. The Huskies would respond with a run of their own, as a pair of Mark Wartman (Mahanoy/Mahanoy Area) lay-ups and a Marko Vucajnk (Slovenia/Marist) dunk helped the Huskies cut the lead to four, 24-20 with 2:32 left in the Half. A Johnson lay-up and a Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) jumper cut the St. Michaels lead to 28-27 at halftime.
In the second half, St. Michaels would race to a 45-36 lead before Ronnie Benson (Harleysville/Souderton) hit a three and a jumper on consecutive possessions to draw the Huskies within two, 46-44 with just over nine minutes left in the game. That was as close as they would come though, as St. Michaels out-scored the Huskies 19-18 down the stretch and would never trail again.
Ruben Britt (Vorhees, NJ/Coppin State) led the way for the Huskies with 17 points while Johnson added 14. Webster finished with eight rebounds and three blocks.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to PSU-Hazleton. That game will top-off at 7:30 p.m.
