Bloomsburg Men's Basketball Falls to West Chester

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team fell to the Golden Rams of West Chester, 67-53 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game on Saturday afternoon.

Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) led the way for the Huskies, scoring 15 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

In the first half, West Chester would race out to a 20-12 lead over the first eight minutes of play. The Huskies would cut the WCU lead to three on a Michael Varanavage (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) three-pointer with 10:53 remaining in the first half. West Chester would re-extend their lead to as many as nine before Bloomsburg would draw to within two. A Jesse Betar (Altoona/Altoona) three-pointer with 1:29 left in the first made the score 35-33. West Chester would take a 39-35 lead into the half.

In the second half, West Chester would go on a 12-3 run over the first 9:08 of the second half to make the score 53-38 with just under 11 minutes remaining. A Webster dunk at the 6:24 mark would get Bloomsburg within 10 points, but they would come no closer.

Ronnie Benson (Harleysville/Souderton) added ten for Bloomsburg. Ralph Hegamin led West Chester with 22 points.

With the loss, the Huskies fall to 4-19, 1-9 in the PSAC East.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shippensburg. That game tips off at 8:00 p.m.
