Bloomsburg Men's Basketball Falls to Wilmington
Box Score
BLOOMSBURG- Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) scored a career-high 23 points, but it was not enough as The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team lost to the Wildcats of Wilmington University, 74-66 on Wednesday evening.
The Huskies raced out to a 9-2 lead over the first 1:38 of the first half, thanks to a Ronnie Benson (Harleysville/Souderton) three-pointer capping the furious start. After a Wildcat rally that tied the game at 11, the Huskies went on an 8-0 run keyed by a Webster jumper to take a 19-11 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Wilmington would rally again, though, cutting the Huskies lead to 27-26 with just over five minutes left in the first half. Back-to-back lay-ups by Drew Jerry (Philadelphia/Olney) and Ruben Britt (Vorhees, NJ/Coppin State) with under a minute to go in the first gave the Huskies a seven-point halftime lead, 35-28.
In the second half, Bloomsburg would take a 39-32 lead on an emphatic dunk from Webster, but Wilmington would pull ahead at the 14:53 mark on a lay-up by Antonio Sherrod. Sherrod scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half as Wilmington would stay ahead for good.
Webster finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Jerry and Britt both added ten points for Bloomsburg.
With the loss, the Huskies fall to 2-7 on the season.
Bloomsburg is off until January 3rd, when they will travel to Lock Haven. That game gets started at 3:00 p.m.
