MILLERSVILLE-Bloomsburg University fell to Millersville 61-57 in overtime in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pucillo Gymnasium. It was the sixth straight loss for the Huskies and their third straight loss in overtime.
The Huskies (6-10, 0-4) took a 4-2 lead at the 16:14 mark after each team failed to take advantage of chances on their offensive ends of the floor. Bloomsburg was able to hold the lead, never going ahead by more than four points, until the Marauders (7-10, 2-2) tied the score at 11-apiece at the 12:47 mark and went ahead by two points 28 seconds later.
Millersville then held the lead, never going ahead by more than six points, until sophomore forward Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) converted a layup with one second left in the first half, tying the score at 25-25 heading into halftime.
The Huskies regained their lead at the 16:27 mark of the second half, going up on top 29-27 on a jumper by senior guard Ruben Britt (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional). Bloomsburg would hold onto that lead for nearly the entire second half on the strength of 11 points from sophomore guard Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill). Down 49-44 with 4:09 left, the Marauders battled back, taking a one-point lead on a three-pointer by Mike Seibert with 1:37 left in regulation. After Jason Blake hit a jumper to put Millersville up 53-50, sophomore guard Jesse Betar (Altoona/Altoona) nailed a three-pointer with 16 seconds left, tying the game and sending it to overtime.
Both teams held the lead in overtime as the Huskies held a two-point advantage until Blake's layup with 2:08 left tied the game at 57-all. Blake would then hit two free throws to put Millersville ahead by two with 58 seconds remaining and would hit another with three seconds left to ice the game, giving Bloomsburg the four-point loss.
Blake led all scorers with 21 points while senior forward Adon El (Philadelphia/St. John Neumann) led the Huskies with 13 points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes off the bench. Johnson finished with 11 points and Britt scored nine points, snapping his string of 10 straight games scoring in double-figures.
