Huskies Face California in PSAC Men's Soccer Playoffs

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team will travel to California tomorrow to play the Vulcans in the semi-finals of the PSAC championships at 1 p.m. In the other semi-final, East Stroudsburg will host West Chester, also beginning at 1 p.m. The winners of the semi-final match-ups will meet Sunday at the site of the highest remaining seeded team.

In their regular season match-up, the Huskies fell to California, 3-1, despite outshooting the Vulcans 30-11. Adam Clay (Dallas/Dallas) scored the lone Bloomsburg goal less than two minutes into the game. In goal, Kyle Grim (Macungie/Emmaus) recorded five saves for the Huskies. For California, Vitor Brito scored two goals, while Emedin Sabic added one goal. Goalie CJ Cameron recorded 12 saves against the Huskies in their first meeting.

Going into the semi-finals, Bloomsburg, 10-7-1, 5-3 in the PSAC, is led by Clay, a junior, who has scored 11 goals this season. Greg Pompei (Andover, NJ/Newton) is second on the team in scoring with six, while Michael Barr (Wallingford/Strath Haven), Karl Lohninger (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and Andre Giannotti (Wyommissing/ Wyommissing Area) have all chipped in three goals. Travis Martzell (Myerstown/ELCO) and Josh Prall (Clarks Summit/Abington) lead the team in assists with three each, while Adam Grady (Malvern/Archbishop Carroll), Dan Urbina (Venezuela/San Ignacio of Loyola) and Clay each have recorded two assists. In goal this year for the Huskies, Grim has recorded 108 saves and has a 1.49 goals against average. Grim also has five shutouts on the year.

The Huskies are 5-1 in their last six games, falling only to East Stroudsburg, the number one seed in the PSAC playoffs. The Bloomsburg defense has allowed 27 goals this season and has outshot their opponents, 303-199. For Bloomsburg, Grim is second in the PSAC in saves, while Clay is sixth on the goals-per-game list.

California finished the year with a 11-6-3 record, 5-3 in the PSAC. Brito leads the Vulcans with 14 goals and four assists on the year. Pete Kariotis has scored nine goals for California and leads the team in assists, with eight. In goal, Cameron has 62 saves and a goals against average of 1.28. California has outscored their opponents, 41-32, this season. Brito is second in the PSAC in scoring, and first in the PSAC with six game-winning goals.
