Bloomsburg Falls to Caldwell in Men's Soccer

BLOOMSBURG — Greg Pompei (Andover, NJ/Newton) scored both goals for the Huskies in a 3-2 loss to Caldwell College in men's soccer action on Thursday.

The Huskies opened the scoring just under 10 minutes into the game when Pompei scored his first goal off an assist from Derek Smith (Cochranville/Octorara). Jan Marco Jiras put Caldwell on the board six minutes later to even the score at 1-1. With 10 minutes to play in the half, Kevin Libbos scored Caldwell's second goal to give them a 2-1 lead at the break.

In the second half, Bard Skjelstad put the Cougars up 3-1 by scoring his sixth goal of the year off an assist from Jorge Ibarecena. Pompei tallied his second goal of the game on a penalty kick with 29 minutes to play in the second half. The Huskies kept the pressure on Calwell, looking for the equalizer, but were unable to find the net.

In goal, the Huskies' Jason Balthaser stopped five shots.

Bloomsburg, 5-11, will host Slippery Rock on Saturday at 12 p.m.
