Bloomsburg Downs Mercy College in Men's Soccer Action

DOBBS FERRY, NY — Greg Pompei (Andover, NJ/Newtown) scored two goals and had one assist as the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team beat Mercy College, 3-1, on Friday afternoon.

After Mercy's Robert Rennis opened the scoring at the 19:56 mark, Bloomsburg's Adam Clay (Dallas, PA/Dallas) tied the score at 1-1 off an assist from Pompei at the 30-minute mark.

The game remained tied at 1-all deep into the second half when Pompei scored on a penalty kick to put the Huskies in front 2-1 with 12 minutes left in the game. Pompei then added a second penalty kick goal two and-a-half minutes later to give Bloomsburg some breathing room.

Bloomsburg goalie TJ Ciotti (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) stopped six shots on the afternoon to get the victory.

Bloomsburg, 5-6, will be back in action on Saturday at Bridgeport starting at 1 p.m.
