BLOOMSBURG, PA - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team had five players earn All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East honors for the 2008 season. Named to the second team All-PSAC East were Christian Rota (Langhorne/Neshaminy), Justin McLennan (Wyndmoor/Springfield Twp.), David Leiendecker (Easton/Easton), Mike Jones (Paoli/Great Valley), and Ryan Lafferty (Willow Grove/Upper Dublin), who also earned Rookie of the Year.

Rota was named second team All-PSAC East for the first time in his career. He was third in scoring for the Huskies this season, with four goals and one assists for nine points. For his career he has nine goals and one assist for 19 points. "He has exceptional skill and talent in being a dangerous player who can make an impact in the game," said head coach Paul Payne of Rota.

McLennan earns All-PSAC honors for the first time in his career. "He is the smallest player on the field, but no one worked harder for all 90 minutes. He became a dangerous player because of his desire and work rate," said Payne of McLennan. McLennan was second in scoring for the Huskies with four goals and two assists for 10 points. For his career he has 19 points with eight goals and five assists.

Leindecker earns his first All-PSAC honors after a season with 103 saves, a 0.769 saving average, and two shutouts. "He took a stranglehold on the goalkeeper role this year and proved he can be a big time player, capable of changing the game," said Payne of Leindecker, "David won us some big games and despite some tough losses he was a key ingredient in our success this year."

Jones earns his second All-PSAC second team honor. Jones scored three goals this season for six points, which makes six career goals and 12 career points. "Mike Jones is a presence on the field both attacking and defending," said Payne of Jones, "It is nice to see him receive this recognition given that he suffered a season ending injury with several games to play."

Lafferty earns Rookie of the Year and second team All-PSAC honors as a freshman. "We knew he was a solid player coming out of high school, but exceeded all of ours and others expectations," said Payne of Lafferty, "His awareness on the field, both attacking and defending, made him a dangerous player throughout the game." Lafferty had seven points this season with three goals and one assist.

Bloomsburg was 8-8-4 on the year. Payne is proud of the individuals honored and looks forward to the 2009 season, "All award winners are the result of a total team effort in turning our fortunes around this year. It's rewarding to see these individuals recognized for their achievements and we are excited that four of the five are underclassmen."
