Valeriano Goal Leads BU Past Shepherd University

BLOOMSBURG-- Marcus Valeriano (Oley/Oley Valley) scored off a Tom Kovack (Croydon/Conwell-Egan Catholic) assist 2:32 into overtime to lift the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Shepherd University on Wednesday night.

The two teams battled through a scoreless 90 minutes to end regulation deadlocked 0-0. In the first half Shepherd held the edge in shots on goal, 5-1, while the Huskies held a 10-3 edge in the second half, but neither team could score.

In the extra session, Valeriano took a pass from Kovack and beat Shepherd goalie Wagner Dacosta to give the Huskies the win. It was the first goal of the season for Valeriano and the second assist of the season. Bloomsburg goalie David Leiendecker got the shutout by stopping two shots.

The Huskies climb above .500 with the win and go to 6-5-4 on the season. Bloomsburg will play at Shippensburg on Saturday.
