Bloomsburg University Soccer Participates in "Red Card Cancer" Program

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University men's and women's soccer teams participated in "Red Card Cancer" during their games this past Saturday at Sports Stadium. This program was designed to bring awareness through the soccer coaching community in the fight against cancer.

Both the men's and women's teams wore specially designed t-shirts during pregame warm-ups that featured the "Red Card Cancer" logo. A collection was taken up during the games that benefited the American Cancer Society and a photo was taken of both teams in their t-shirts after the women's win over Charleston.

Organized this year by Huskies' men's coach Paul Payne, "Red Card Cancer" is an annual event that is held the first Saturday of October and features the men's and women's soccer teams of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference joining in the battle to fight cancer. Payne hopes to grow this program into a national event in the next few years. "It would be so rewarding to see the first Saturday in October set aside for the 'Red Card Cancer' event," Payne continued. "The more money we raise the sooner that cancer could be given a permanent seat on the sidelines."
