Paul Payne begins his first year at Bloomsburg after replacing John O'Leary, who stepped down following the 1998 season. Payne was formerly head soccer coach at the University of Scranton.
While at Scranton, Payne guided the Royals to a record of 40-36-4 and four Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) playoff berths. He was named the 1997 MAC Coach of the Year after leading Scranton to an 8-9-2 record and the MAC Freedom League championship.
A standout collegiate player at Kutztown University, Payne immediately moved into the coaching ranks upon his graduation. He was head coach at both Conestoga and Wallenpaupack high schools before becoming an assistant coach with the University of Scranton men's and women's teams. In 1995, he was named head coach of the Royals' men's team. He is familiar with the Huskies, having faced them each of the last four years, including a 4-0 Bloomsburg win in 1998.
Payne Serves as a National Staff Coach for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as well as the Region II Representative for the NSCAA. He also holds a U.S.S.F. "A" License and a NSCAA Premier Coaching Badge.
Payne and his wife, Brenda, have a daughter, Molly, and reside in Bloomsburg.
