Huskies Swim Teams Lead After First Day at Southern Connecticut Invitational

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim team both lead after the first day of competition at the Southern Connecticut Invitational Competition. The women lead with a score of 476 points, while the men are in first place scoring 378 points. The meet will conclude on Sunday December 7th.

On the women's side, Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) finished first in two individual events, the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, as well as one relay event, the 800 freestyle.

Rebecca Kadingo (Orwigsburg/Nativity B.V.M.), (Kari Pokrzwya Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) , and

Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson) each helped the Huskies with second place finishes in individual events. Jen Shank (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) and Lindsay Wallace (Frenchville/Clearfield) also swam well for the Huskies, taking third in individual events.

The team of Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield), Holly McCullough (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia), Carey and Wallace took first in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:42. The Huskies 800 freestyle team of Becky Witwer (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township), Shank, Wallace, and Yelinek also took first in the 800 freestyle in a time of 8:05.

For the men, Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin Area) had the only first place individual finish, taking the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:43. Brandon Hilt (Mt. Joy/Hempfield) and Jason Davis (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) took second in individual events for the solid Huskies' lineup.

The team of Tom DiSalvatore (Thornton/West Chester East), Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northamton), Hilt, and Davis won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:37. The Huskies 800 freestyle relay team of Andrew Wise (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Stephen Post (Scranton/Scranton), DiSalvatore and Rumfelt took second in a time of 7:17.
