Women Take First, Men Place Second at Southern Connecticut Invitational

The Bloomsburg women's swim team took first and the men finished second at the Southern Connecticut Invitational on Saturday. The women finished with 955 points while the men ended the day with 765 points.

On the second day of competition, Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson) led the way, finishing first in two individual events.

Kari Pokrzwya (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) and Lindsay Wallace (Frenchville/Clearfield) also swam strong, finishing first in the 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke respectively. Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield) and Jen Shank (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) swam well, taking second in individual events. Dean, as well as Ashley Koch (West Chester/West Chester East and Rebecca Kadingo (Orwigsburg/Nativity B.V.M.), took third in an individual event.

The women's 400 medley relay team of Lauren Sterkenberg (Lancaster/Hempfield), Pokrzwya, Carey and Kadingo took first in the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:10. Becky Witwer (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township), Wallace, Dean, and Shank paced the Huskies with a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The Huskies 200 medley relay team took second in a time of 1:54.

For the men, Jason Davis (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) led the way with a first place finish in the 200 breaststroke. Ryan Farrell (Mountaintop/Bishop Hoban) finished :02 behind Davis to take second in a time of 2:19.

Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton) took second in the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.74. Brandon Hilt (Mt. Joy/Hempfield) and David Rude (Pottstown/West-mont Christian) also chipped in with second place finishes in individual events.

The team of Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin Area), Andrew Wise (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Hilt, and Backenstoe finished second in the 400 freestyle in a time of 3:13. The men's team also took second in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:37.
