Bloomsburg Sweeps Kutztown in Swimming

BLOOMSBURG —The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim team swept a dual-meet with Kutztown University on Wednesday night. The women won by a score of 129-76 while the men were 106-95 winners.

For the women, Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) and Sara Lengler (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) were both two-time individual winners for the Huskies. Smith, in the midst of a great freshman season, won the 50-free in 25.23 and the 100-free in 54.74. Lengler was a winner in the 200-IM in 2:18.50 and the 200-breast in 2:35.84.

In addition, Ashley Kroh (Boyertown/Boyertown) took first in the 1000-free in 11:02.19, while Kari Pokrzywa (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) was first in the 200-back in 2:14.27.

In relay action, the Huskies team of Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield), Jackie Gribbin (Richboro/Council Rock North), Emily Varley (Susasunna/Roxbury) and Smith was first in the 400-free relay in 3:45.61.

For the men, Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin) was a three-time winner for the Huskies. The sophomore took first in the 1000-free in 10:25.03, the 200-free in 1:48.34 and the 500-free in 4:59.51. Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northhampton) was a two-time winner taking top honors in the 50-free in 21.86 and the 100-free in 49.12. Also, Mark Freeman (Collegeville/Perkiomen) was the winner of the 200-back in 2:07.75.

In relay action, the team of Travis Wagner (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg), Ken Smith (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan), Steve Post (Scranton/Scranton) and Backenstoe took first in the 400-free relay in 3:19.78.

Bloomsburg will be at IUP on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
