BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams wrapped day two action at the 2005 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships.

The Bloomsburg women are in fourth place overall with 165 points, while the men's team is fifth with 51 points.

In Thursday night's finals, the Huskies' Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) took fourth in the 500-free in a time of 5:10.66. It was Yelinek's second straight fourth place finish after taking fourth in the 1,000-free Wednesday night. In addition, Ashley Kroh (Boyertown/Boyertown) finished sixth in the 500-free with a time of 5:13.75.

In the women's 200-IM, Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson), was eighth in a time of 2:13.46, while in the 50-free, Dianne Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove).was 12th in a time of 24.92.

In relay action for the women, the Huskies took fourth in the 200-free relay in a time of 1:39.96 with Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield), Carey, Jackie Gribbin (Richboro/Council Rock North) and Smith.

For the men, Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton).was sixth in the 50-free in a time of 21.58, while Chris Rumfelt was eighth in the 500-free in a time of 4:45.28.

In men's relay action, the Huskies were fifth in the 200-free with a time of 1:28.86 with Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin), Mark Freeman (Bethlehem/Freedom), Steve Post (Scranton/Scranton) and Backenstoe.

Earlier in the day in preliminary action, the Huskies advanced to the finals of the 200-free relay with the team of Rumfelt, Freeman, Post, and Backenstoe finishing in sixth place in a time of 1:28.54, about one second off their seed time. Backenstoe closed out the race turning in the fastest lap on the team in 21.01.

Individually for the men, Backenstoe finished sixth in the 50-free in a time of 21.36 moving him into the finals.

The women got off to a fast start early in the day with the relay team of Dean, Carey, Gribbin and Smith advancing to the finals of the 200-free finishing fourth in a time of 1:40.21, about sixth tenths of a second faster than their seeding time. Smith posted the fastest lap time for the Huskies in 24.21.

In the 500-free, both Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) and Ashley Kroh (Boyertown/Boyertown) qualified for the finals finishing in third and sixth place, respectively. Yelinek finished in a time of 5:11.46, about four seconds faster than her seeding time. She posted a time of 28.7 in her first lap before keeping a steady pace swimming eight of the last nine laps in the mid 31 second range. Kroh finished with a time of 5:14.31, about five seconds faster than her seeding time.

In the 200-IM, Carey just missed qualifying for the championship finals finishing in seventh place in a time of 2:13.00, about one second faster than her qualifying time.
