Bloomsburg Splits in Swimming Saturday

BLOOMSBURG —The Bloomsburg University women's swim team defeated the College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Saturday by a 147-107; while the men lost to TCNJ 146-105.

In women's action, Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) was a three-time winner for the Huskies taking first in the 50 free in 25.65; the 100 free in 55.11 and the 200 free in 1:59.12. Kari Pokrzwya (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) and Ashley Kroh (Boyertown/Boyertown) were both two-time winners with Pokrzwya taking first in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.71 and the 200-backstroke in 2:12.18. Kroh was a winner in the 1000 free in 10:56.56 and the 100-breast in 1:13.53. In addition, Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson) won the 200-breast in 2:38.25 with Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southemoreland) first in the 500-free in 5:26.42.

In relay action, the team of Laura Jeffers (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley), Carey, Sara Lengler (Harrisburg/CD East) and Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield) took first in the 200-medley relay in a time of 1:55.38, winning by nearly two seconds.

For the men, Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin Area) was first in the 200 free in 1:43.28 and the 500-free in 4:53.91. In addition, Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton) was a winner in the 50-free in 21.85.

In relay action, the team of Rumfelt, Backenstoe, Steve Post (Scranton/Scranton) and Travis Wagner (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) took first in the 400-free relay in 3:18.46.

The Huskies are back in action on Dec. 3rd at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational.
