Men's Swimming Competes at Westminster Relay Carnival

Westminster—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams competed at the Westminster Relay Carnival on Saturday. The Huskies finished second with 340 points behind Westminster College's 364 points. Allegheny was third in the event with 322 points.

The team of Steve Withers (Chalfont/Chalfont), Ken Smith (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan), Mark Freeman (Bethlehem/Perkiomen Valley) and Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin) that finished first in the 800-yard free relay with a time of 7:28.90. Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton), Bret Palmer (Marysville/ Susquenita), Withers and Rumfelt teamed up to get another win for the Huskies, this time on the 500-yard crescendo relay with a time of 4:21.88.

Bloomsburg got its third win in the 200-yard freestyle relay when the team of Jason Chrisanthon (Springfield/Springfield), Travis Wagner (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg), Backenstoe and Palmer won the event in 1:31.36, while the team of Rumfelt, Wagner, Freeman and Backenstoe got a win in the 400-yard free relay in a time of 3:21.99.

Josh Chandler (Mount Joy/Donegall), Freeman, Williams and Chrisanthon won the 400-yard IM relay with a time of 3:57.56.

The Huskies got a third-place finish in the 1,500-yard free relay as the team of Chandler, Smith and Withers combined for a time of 16:12.50.

The Huskies will be idle until Nov. 12 when they host Ithaca at 1:00 p.m.
