Bloomsburg University Begins Swim Season
MEET RESULTS
BLOOMSBURG —The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim team started their season on Saturday at the Clarion Invitational. The women took second and the men's team was third.
Junior Sara Lengler( Harrisburg/ Central Dauphin East) had three top three finishes for the Huskies. Lengler placed first in the 200- breaststroke with a time of 2:36:34. In the 200-individual medley Lengler placed second with a time of 2:19.79. In the 100-backstroke Bloomsburg held all three of the top spots, as Lengler placed first with a time of 1:03.87 followed by Kari Pokrzywa (Fairless Hills/ Pennsbury) at 1:04.33 and Ashley Koch (Collegeville/ West Chester East) at 1:05.01.
Junior Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/ Southmoreland) also had two first place finishes of the day in the 500-freestyle in 5:24.81 and in the 1650- freestyle with 18:30.81. Ashley Kroh (Boyertown/ Boyertown) finished second behind Yelinek in the 1650- freestyle in 18:51.52.
In the 200-butterfly, Pokrzywa placed second in 2:22.29 and Lauren Sterkenberg(Lancaster/ Hempfield) went third in a time of 2:24. 37. Sophomore Dianna Smith (West Grove/ Avon Grove) placed second for the Huskies in the 200-freestyle in 2:01.00
In relay action the team of Courtney Dean (Lancaster/ Hempfield) , Jackie Gribben ( Richboro/ Council Rock North), Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/ Selinsgrove Area), and Smith placed first in the 400-free.
The Huskies will travel to Mansfield on Saturday for a 11 a.m start.
For the men, Joe Post (Scranton/Scranton) and Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/ Northampton) both had two first place finishes. Backenstoe touched the wall first in the 50-freestyle in 22.48 and then in the 100-freestyle in 48.60.
In the 500-freestyle, Post finished first in a time of 5:02.15, followed by sophomore Jim Toolan (Norristown/ La Salle) in 5:12.76 . Post also placed first in the 200-freestyle in 1:51.91. In second place was freshman Steve Withers (Chalfont) in a time of 1:54.35.
Freshman Jason Chrisanthon (Springfield/Springfield) had two, third-place finishes for the Huskies. The first came in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:24.51 and also in the 200 yard individual medley at 2:09.60.
In the 1,650- freestyle, Toolan took second place in 18:27.78 and Withers touched in at third place with a time of 18:42.57.
In men's relay action, the team of Mike Williams (Lower Moreland), Travis Wagner (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg), Backenstoe, and Chrisanthon placed second in the 200- freestyle. In the 200-medley relay Mark Freeman (Bethlehem/ Perkiomen Valley), Williams, Chrisanthon, and Backenstoe placed third.
The men's team will travel to Lycoming on Thursday for a 7 p.m. start.
