Bloomsburg Swims at Daytona Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, FL —The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams took part in the Daytona Invitational on Wednesday with the women taking third place and the men fifth place.
Leading the women was junior Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) who had two first place finishes. Yelinek took first in the 1000-free in 10:56.08, then came back with a first in the 500-free in 5:24.75. Also swimming well was sophomore Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) who had a second and third place finishes. Smith took second in the 200-free in 2:00.20 and third in the 100-free in 55.58.
In addition, Kari Pokrzywa (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) was third in the 100-back in 1:03.48, while Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson) took third in the 200-IM in 2:21.89.
In relay action, the Huskies were second in the 200-free relay in a time of 1:44.25 and third in the 200-medley relay in 1:57.59.
For the men, Steve Post (Scranton/Scranton) was third in 200-free in 1:52.62 and fourth in the 500-free in 5:09.64. Also, Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton) was third in 50-free in 22.39 with Jason Chrisanthon (Springfield/Springfield) fourth in 100-breast in 1:05.27.
The Bloomsburg women finished with 376 points, while the men totaled 272 points. Both teams are back in action on Jan. 20th hosting Shippensburg University.
