Bloomsburg Men's and Women's Swim Teams Downs Ithaca

BLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams beat Ithaca in dual meet action. The women's team won 110 – 87, while the men were 113.5-90.5 winners.

For the women, Dianna Smith(West Grove/ Avon Grove) had two first place finishes for the Huskies. Smith finished first in the 200 free in 1:58.22, while teammate Sara Hippeli finished third in 2:03.28. Smith also placed first in the 100 free in 54.87. Courtney Dean (Lancaster/ Hempfield) placed third for the Huskies in 56.72.

In the 100 Free Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/ Southmoreland) finished first in 10:49.93 and Barb Caccia placed third in 11:16.91. Allie Reed(Selinsgrove/ Selinsgrove Area), and Dean went one and two in the 50 free. Reed finished in 25.98 and Dean finished in 26.20. In the 200 IM, Erin Carey placed first in 2:15.11 and Sara Lengler ( Harrisburg/ Central Dauphin East) finished third in 2:19.27.

Lauren Sterkenberg(Lancaster/ Hempfield) finished first for the Huskies in the 200 Fly in a time of 2:20.72 and Stephanie Boccuti took third in 2:22.08. In the 200 back Kari Pokrzywa(Fairless Hills/ Pennsbury) and Laura Jeffers(Collegeville /Perkiomen Valley) went one and two. Pokrzywa finished first in a time of 2:13.34 and Jeffers placed second in 2:15.29.

In relay action the team ok Pokrzywa, Carey, Sterkenberg, and Reed placed first in the 400 Medley Relay in 4:09.73. While the team of Jeffers, Lengler, Boccuti, and Kristen Ohlsen ( Allentown/ Parkland) placed third in 4:18.33.

In men's action, Chris Rumfelt(Shamokin/ Shamokin) had three first place finishes to lead the men's team to victory. Rumfelt placed first in the 1000 free in a time of 10:24.73, while teammate Steve Withers (Chalfont) placed third in 10:41.18. Rumfelt's second win came in the 200 free when he touched the wall in 1:47.20. Steve Post(Scranton/Scranton) finished second for the Huskies in 1:49.05. Rumfelt and Post went one and two again in the 500 free. Rumfelt finished first in 5:01.32 and Post finished second in 5:03.04.

In the 50-free, Travis Backenstoe(Walnutport/ Northampton) finished first in 22.18 and Bret Palmer(Marysville/ Susquenita) placed third in 22.91. In the 200 IM, Jason Chrisanthon(Springfield/Springfield) finished third for the Huskies in 2:07.04. Chrisanthon also placed second in the 200 breaststroke. Mike Williams(Lower Moreland) also had a third place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:15.68.

In the 100-free, Backenstoe placed first in 49.17 and Withers finished second in 51.16. In the 200 Backstroke, Josh Chandler finshed first in 2:05.74 and Mark Freeman (Bethlehem/ Perkiomen Valley) finished second in 2:06.19.

In relay action the team of Withers, Freeman, Post and Backenstoe placed first in the 400 free relay in 3:20.03. The team of Palmer, Wagner, Williams, and Ken Smith(Philadelphia/ Archbishop Ryan) placed third in 3:31.11. In the 400 medley relay, Chandler, Chrisanthon, Williams, and Smith placed second in 3:50.05.

The Huskies will be back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. against Albright.
