Bloomsburg Wraps Up Day Two at PSAC Swimming Championships

MEET RESULTS

CLARION --The Bloomsburg University women's team is in fourth place after day two of the 2006 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships being held at Clarion University, while the men are in fifth place.

The women have totaled 170 through two days, while the men have 79 points.

In finals of day two for the women, the 200-free relay team of Courtney Dean (Lancaster/Hempfield), Erin Carey (West Chester/Henderson), Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) and Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) finished third in a time of 1:39.01. In the other relay action of the day, the Huskies finished fifth in the 400-medley relay with the team of Sara Lengler (Harrisburg/C.D. East), Erin Carey, Lauren Sterkenberg (Lancaster/Hempfield) and Smith.

Individually, Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) was fifth in the 500-free in a time of 5:13.47, while Carey was sixth in the 200-IM in 2:13.92. Smith also took seventh in the 50-free in 24.89 seconds.

For the men, the 200-freerelay team of Chris Rumfelt (Shamokin/Shamokin), Nicholas Prima (Trinidad), Steve Post (Scranton/Scranton) and Travis Backenstoe (Walnutport/Northampton) took third in a time of 1:25.94. In the 400-medley relay, Josh Chandler (Mount Joy/Donegal), Prima, Rumfelt and Backenstoe were fourth in 3:34.70.

Individually, Backenstoe posted the Huskies best finish with a third place in the 50-free in a time of 21.30 with Rumfelt eighth in the event in 22.10.

In the 500-free, Steve Post was seventh in a time of 4:45.56, while Josh Chandler was 11th in 200-IM in 2:03.50.

Day three of the PSAC championships will get underway at 10 a.m. on Friday.
