BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's swim team beat The College of New Jersey in dual meet action 117.50-87.50, while the men suffered their first dual meet loss, 110-87. For the women, Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/ Southmoreland) and Dianna Smith (West Grove/ Avon Grove had two first-place finishes for the Huskies. Yelinek placed first in the 1,000-meter free in a time of 10:53.25 and Barb Caccia (Lauren Springs, NJ /Sterling High) finished third in 11:35.56. Yelinek's second win came in the 500-yard free in a time of 5:20.58 and Sara Hippeli (Quakertown/Quakertown) came in third in the same event with a time of 5:25.95. Smith finished first in the 50-yard free in 25.63 while teammate Allie Reed (Selinsgrove/ Selinsgrove Area) finished second in 26.09. Smith also placed first in the 100-yard free in 55.46 and Courtney Dean finished second in 56.81. Dean also had a first-place victory in the 200 free when she swam a 2:02.05. Hippeli was second in 2:02.26. In the 200-yard IM Sara Lengler (Harrisburg/ Central Dauphin East) finished first in 2:17.26, while Erin Carey (West Chester / Henderson) placed third in 2:17.51. Lauren Sterkenberg (Lancaster/Hempfield) placed third in the 200-yard fly for the Huskies. In the 200-yard backstroke, Kari Pokrzywa(Fairless Hills/ Pennsbury) placed first in a time of 2:13.55 and Lengler placed second in 2:16.97. Lengler also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke. In relay action the team of Ashley Koch (Collegeville/ West Chester East), Jeffers, Sterkenberg, and Kristen Ohlsen (Allentown/ Parkland) placed second in 4:15.00 in the 400-yard medley relay. In the 400-yard free relay, Ohlsen, Hippeli, Caccia and Carey placed second in 3:57.68, while the team of Kristin Harrison (Chalfont./ Central Bucks West), Jessica Gribbin (Richboro /Council Rock North), Koch and Pokrzywa came in third in 3:57.68. For the men, Chris Rumfelt(Shamokin/ Shamokin) placed first in the 200-yard free in 1:46.19. Rumfelt also placed first in the 100-yard free in 48.30. Travis Backenstoe(Walnutport/ Northampton) had a first-place finish in the 50-yard free in a time of 22.10. Josh Chandler (Mount Joy/ Donegall) placed second in the 200 IM in a time of 2:06.59 for the Huskies and finished third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.71. Steve Post (Scranton/Scranton) had a second-place finish in the 500-yard free in 5:03.39. In the 200-yard breaststroke Jason Chrisanthon (Springfield /Springfield) placed first in 2:20.72 and Matt Lindsay (Montoursville) took second in 2:47.60. In relay action the team of Chandler, Chrisanthon, Rumflet, and Backenstoe placed second in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:44.25. In the 400-yard free relay, Post, Freeman, Withers and Backenstoe finished first in 3:19.58, while the team of Bret Palmer (Marysville/Susquenita), Mike Williams (Lower Moreland), Ken Smith (Philadelphia /Archbishop Ryan) and Travis Wagner (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) placed second in 3:36.48. The teams will be off until Dec. 2 when they compete in the Franklin and Marshal Invitational . |
