Bloomsburg Men's Swimming Downs IUP

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's swim team picked up their first dual meet win of the season with a close 105-100 victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday evening.

The match came down to the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. With IUP leading 96-92, the Huskies' "A" relay team of Joe Bentz (York/York Suburban), Dereck Fritz (Stevens/Epherata), Mark Freeman (Bethlehem/Freedom) and David Mancinelli (Plymoth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop) picked up a first place finish in 3:23.42, earning 11 points. The "B" relay team added a strong third place finish to pick up two points and seal the win.

On the night, Withers also picked up three individual first place finishes. In the 1,000-free he swam a 10:40.77 to earn the win, while in both the 200-free (1:50.84) and the 500-free (5:00.18) he swam conference qualifying times.

Bentz also picked up a conference championship time taking second place (4:25.61) in the 400-yard IM. Mancinelli took first place in the 100-free in 50.99 to round out the scoring for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies (1-6) are idle until February 3rd when they host West Chester at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
