Bloomsburg Swimmers in Day Two of Akron Invitational


Day Two Finals

AKRON, OH--The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams wrapped up their second day of competition at the Akron Invitational. After day two, the men's team is in 8th place with 415.5 points, while the women's team is in 9th with 250 points.

On the men's side, Tyler DeLorenzo (State College/State College) was the top finisher for the Huskies placing fourth in the 400-IM event in a time of 4:19.43. Also, Joe Bentz (York/York Suburban) placed seventh in the 400-IM in a time of 4:20.29. Also, in the 100 fly, Juan Castaneda (Shamokin/Shamokin) was 13th in 53.89 seconds, while in the 200-free, Steve Withers (Chalfont/Central Bucks West) was 13th in 1:47.66. In the 100-breast, Tom Runscavage (Shavertown/Dallas) was 16th in 1:04.10, while in the 100-back, Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) was 12th in 54.63 seconds.

In men's relay action, in the 200-medley, the team of Withers, Runscavage, Castaneda and David Manicelli (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) took 14th in 1:42.36, while in the 800-free relay, Dereck Fritz (Stevens/Ephrata), Manicelli, Straub and Withers finished 10th in 7:17.15.

On the women's side, Dianna Smith (West Grove/Avon Grove) was the top finisher for Bloomsburg, placing fourth in the 200-free in a time of 1:53.91 while Allison Reed (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) placed sixth in a time of 1:56.36. In the 800-free relay, the team of reed, Smith, Jess Gribbin (Richboro/Council Rock North) and Sara Hippelli (Quakertown/Quakertown) was 12th in 8:04.37.
