Bloomsburg University Swimmers Qualify for Championship Meet
BLOOMSBURG-Thirty-one members of the swim team will compete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming Championships on Thursday, February 19 to Sunday, February 22 at Cumberland Valley High School.
Qualifying for the women are: Kellie Ayres (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) in the 200-breaststroke and 400 IM, Ashley Carroll (Mohnton/Schuylkill Valley) in the 100-backstroke, Nicole Chinnici (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) in the 50-free, and Lisa Ferrigno (West Chester/Bishop Shanahan) in the 200-breaststroke and 400 IM.
Brianne Globig (New Kensington/Plum) qualified in the 200-free, 500-free, 1000-free and 1650-free, Sarah Grawe (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) qualified for the 100-free, 100-backstroke, 200-backstroke and the 200 IM, Sara Hippeli (Quakertown/Quakertown) will swim in the 200-free, 500-free, 1000-free, 1650-free and the 100-butterfly, and Brittany McNeil (Oxford/Oxford Area) will compete in the 100-breaststroke, 200-breaststroke, and the 200 IM.
Miranda Steel (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) qualified for the 200-free, 500-free, 1000-free, and the 1650-free, Emily Stiles (Lansdale/North Penn) will compete in the 1000-free and the 400 IM, Liz Tesoro (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) will swim in the 100-backstroke and 200-backstroke, Michelle Wesh (Pittsgrove, NJ/OLMA) will compete in the 400 IM, and Danielle Wrecisics (Coopersburg/Palisades) will swim in the 200-breaststroke.
Hippeli is seeded sixth in the 500-free, ninth in the 1000-free and sixth in the 1650-free. Grawe has the sixth seed in the 200-backstroke and McNeil is seeded eighth in the 200-breaststroke.
Qualifying for the men are: Joe Bentz (York/York Suburban) in the 200-free, 500-free, 200-butterfly and 400 IM, Mike Bierds (Malvern/West Chester) in the 50-free, 100-free, 100-butterfly and 200-butterfly, Steve Boris (State College/State College Area) in the 100-breaststroke, 200-breaststroke and 400 IM, and Mike Busada (Bloomsburg/Columbia County Christian) in the 100-breaststroke and 200-breaststroke.
Juan Castaneda (Shamokin/Shamokin Area) qualified for the 50-free, 100-butterfly and 200-butterfly, Tyler DeLorenzo (State College/State College Area) will swim in the 100-backstroke, 200-backstroke, 200 IM and 400 IM, Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville/Souderton Area) will compete in the 100-breaststroke and 200-breaststroke, Derek Fritz (Stevens/Ephrata) will swim in the 100-free and 200-free, and Tom Hayes
(Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) qualified for the 1650-free.

John King (Ridley Park/Ridley) will swim in the 200-free, 500-free, 1000-free and the 1650-free, Ryan Lightner (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) will swim in the 50-free, 100-free and 100-backstroke, David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop) will compete in the 50-free, 100-free and 200-free, Ben Safran (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) will compete in the 200-butterfly, and Erik Stefferud (West Chester/West Chester Henderson) qualified for the 200-backstroke, 100-butterfly and 200-butterfly.
Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) will compete in the 50-free, 100-free, 100-backstroke and 200- backstroke, Kyle Weisenbach (Lincoln University/Avon Grove) will swim in the 1650-free, 200-breaststroke and the 400 IM, Zach Wilson (Thorndale/Coatesville Area) qualified for the 1650-free, and Steve Withers (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) will swim in the 100-free, 200-free, 500-free, 200-backstroke and the 400 IM.
King is seeded eighth in the 500-free, fifth in the 1000-free, and fifth in the 1650-free. Straub has the fourth seed in the 100-backstroke, DeLorenzo has the 10th seed in the 200-backstroke, and Castaneda has the third seed in the 100-butterfly.
Both teams look to improve upon their results from last year where the women took fifth place and the men finished seventh.
