Juan Castenda Break Schools Record in 100-Fly

AKRON, OH--Sophomore Juan Castaneda (Shamokin/Shamokin) twice broke the Bloomsburg University school record in the 100-fly on Saturday at the Zippy Invitational at the University of Akron to highlight day two action.

In the morning prelims, Castenda broke his school record time of 52.18 with a time of 51.20 which was also an NCAA championship "B" qualifying time. Then in the evening finals, Castenda broke his mark again with a time of 50.99 to take third place overall in the event. The time is one of the best in the PSAC this season.

Also on the men's side, John King (Ridley Park/Ridley) swam a career-best 1:46.53 in the 200-free in the evening session after swimming a personal-best 1:47.31 in the morning prelims. Mike Bierds (Malvern/West Chester) had a personal-best 52.54 in the 100-fly, while Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) swam a personal-best in the 100-backstroke with a time of 53.65 in the morning, then a 53.45 in the evening. Tom Runscavage (Shavertown/Dallas) had a personal-best in the 100-breast in 1:02.55, while Mike Busada (Bloomsburg/Columbia County Christian) also had a personal-best in the 100-breast with a time of 1:02.66.

Anthony Sirico (Milford/Delaware Valley) had a personal-best in the 100-breast with a time 1:03.30 and the 50-free in 23.22, while David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop) had a personal-best in the 200-free in 1:47.80.

For the women, Ashley Carroll (Mohnton/Schuylkill Valley) turned in a time in the 100-back with a 1:03.15 to qualify for the PSAC championships, while Michelle Wesh (Pittsgrove, NJ/OLMA) had a PSAC-qualifying time of 4:57.20 in the 400-IM. Lisa Ferrigno (West Chester/Bishop Shannahan) also had a PSAC-qualifying time in the 400-IM with a mark of 4:55.04 with Brianne Globig (New Kensington/Plum) qualifying for the PSAC championships in the 200-free with a time of 2:01.32. Katie Leibig (Saylorsburg/Stroudsburg) turned in a personal-best in the 100-fly swimming 1:05.87.
