Hippeli Swims NCAA "B" Cut Time; King Sets School Record

AKRON, OH--Senior Sara Hippeli (Quakertown/Quakertown) and sophomore John King (Ridley Park/Ridley) led the Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams at the Zippy Invitational at the Akron University on Sunday.

Hippeli swam an NCAA "B" cut time and personal-best time of 17:59.78 in the 1650 free while finishing 16th overall, the first finisher from Division II in the event. King broke a the school record in the 1650 free finishing in 16:29.28 to take fourth place overall, finishing behind three Division I swimmers. King also set a personal-best time in the 1000-free finishing the first part of the event in 9:51.12.

Also in the 1650 free, Zach Wilson (Thorndale/Coatesville) had a PSAC-qualifying time of 17:35.94, while Brianne Globig (New Kensington/Plum) swam a personal-best time of 18:14.77 and in the first part of the race had a personal-best time of 10:57.93 in the 1000-free.

In the 200-breast, Mike Busada (Bloomsburg/Columbia County Christian) swam a PSAC-qualifying time of 2:19.77, while Steve Boris (State College/State College) had a PSAC-qualifying time of 2:17.55 to finish 14th and Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville/Souderton) had a career-best time of 2:18.84. In the 200-fly, three swimmers had personal-best times. Juan Cataneda (Shamokin/Shamokin) swam a 1:59.18, while Ben Safran (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) had a 2:01.95 and Chip Benedict (Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) had a 2:05.85.

In the 200-back Tyler DeLorenzo (State College/State College) had a time a personal-best time of 1:59.20, while Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) also had a personal-best time of 1:59.67.

For the women, two swimmers had PSAC-qualifying times in the 200-breast. Lisa Ferrigno (West Chester/Bishop Shanahan) had a time of 2:33.90, while Kellie Ayres (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) had a time qualifying time of 2:34.65.

In the 200-back, Sarah Grawe (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) and Stacey Henry (Bessemer/Kennedy Catholic) both had personal-best times with Grawe swimming 2:11.48 and Henry 2:17.62.
