Huskies Break School Record in 400 Medley Relay

MECHANICSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams completed day two of the 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships with some solid performances.
The men's swim team led the way breaking the school record in the 400-medley relay. The team of Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson), Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville/Souderton), Juan Castaneda (Shamomkin/Shamokin) and Steve Withers (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) lowered the seven-year old mark from 3:32.13 to 3:32.05.
In the men's prelims, John King (Ridley Park/Ridley) finished 10th in the 500-free in 4:45.67, the eighth fastest time in school history. In the 200-IM Tyler DeLorenzo (State College/State College) was 11th in the prelims with a time of 1:58.70, just two-tenths of a second off of the school record in the event.
In the 50-free prelims David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmount Hilltop) swam a 21.74, a top-10 school record time, to finish ninth, while Ryan Lightner (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) finished 13th in a time of 22.03.
During Friday night's finals in the 500-free, King was 10th and lowered his time to 4:45.35, the sixth best at BU, while in the 200-IM DeLorenzo finished 12th in 1:59.03. In the 50-free finals, Mancinelli was 12th in 21.97, while Lightner was 13th in 21.99.
In relay action, the Huskies were fourth in the 200-free relay with the team of Mancinelli, Michael Bierds (Malvern/West Chester), Straub and Lightner. In the 400-medley relay the Huskies took sixth in 3:32.05 with the team of Straub, Dorsch, Casteneda and Withers.
In the women's 50-free prelims, Sarah Grawe (Stafford, VA/Stafford) swam the second-fastest time in school history with a mark of 24.60 to finish 14th overall. Her time was also good enough to make the NCAA "B" cut time in the event.
In the finals on Friday night, Grawe finished in a tie for 13th in the 50-free with a time of 24.67 seconds. In the 400-medley relay, Bloomsburg was 10th in 4:07.63 with the team of Liz Tesoro (Doylestown/Central Bucks West), Brittany McNeil (Oxford/Oxford), Sara Hippeli (Quakertown/Quakertown), Grawe.
Action will resume on Saturday morning.
