Swim Teams Down Albright


Meet Results

READING--The Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams defeated Albright College on Saturday in a meet in Reading. The women won by a score of 145-107, while the men posted a 136-121 victory.

For the women, four swimmers captured the top spot in two events each. Miranda Steel (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) took first in the 1000 free in 11:03.91 and the 500 free in 5:24.71. Sarah Grawe (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) was first for the Huskies in both the 100 back in 1:02.94 and the 50 free in 25.81. She was also second in the 200-breast in 2:18.42.

Brittany McNeil (Oxford/Oxford) captured both breaststroke events. She was first in the 100 in 10:09.85 and tops in the 200 distance in 2:30.96. In the 200-fly, Madeline Barlow (Yardley/Pennsbury) was first in 2:13.32 and first in the 200-back in 2:12.72.

In addition, Bridget Hilferty (Royersford/Perkiomen Valley) was second in both the 1000- and 500-free events. In the 1000 she turned in a time of 11:09.92, then had a time of 5:31.69 in the 500.

For the men, Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville/Souderton Area) topped the Huskies with two first place finishes in the 100-breast in 1:02.23 and the 200-breast in 2:19.54.

Bloomsburg also took first in the 200-fly with Ben Safran (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) in a time of 2:03.81, while in the 1000-free, Tom Hayes (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) was first in 10:51.64. In the 100-fly Juan Castaneda (Shamokin/Shamokin Area) was first in 54.35 seconds. Shane Stinedurf (Martinsburg/Central) was first in the 100-free in 50.81 seconds just beating teammates David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop) who had a time of 50.93 and Derek Straub with a 50.95 mark.

Bloomsburg also took first in women's 200-medley relay with a time of 1:55.07 with Ashley Carroll (Mohnton/Schuylkill Valley), McNeil, Barlow and Nicole Chinnici (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), while in the men's 200-medley relay Ryan Lightner (Lebanon/Cedar Crest), Nick Ortlieb (North Wales/North Penn), Castaneda and Josh Cillo (Montoursville/Montoursville) were first in 1:41.51.

Bloomsburg swims at West Chester on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
