Bloomsburg Men's Swimming Elects Captains for 2009-10 Season

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's swim team has chosen its captains for the 2009-2010 swimming season. Representing the Huskies will be Joe Bentz (York/York Suburban), David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop) and Dereck Fritz (Stevens/Ephrata).

Bentz, a senior, repeats as captain from last year. He is one of the best 200 flyers in school history, ranking third all time in the event at Bloomsburg. "Joe is a solid athlete who knows what it takes to perform at a high level," said Huskies head coach Stu Marvin. "He is a hard worker and is willing to take on the toughest challenges."

Mancinelli, a senior, also repeats as captain from last year. He has established himself as one of the top sprinters at Bloomsburg, ranking in the top 10 in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. "Dave has a quiet determination that the rest of the team can sense," said Marvin. "He has gotten faster every year and is poised to make the big final at PSAC's this season."

Fritz, another senior, has contributed to the success of the program in many events, from the 50 free through the 500 free. "Dereck brings a great sense of team spirit to the table, said Marvin. He is an outstanding individual and a great choice as captain."

The Huskies open their season by hosting the Bloomsburg Relays on Saturday, October 10.
